Haryana Govt Cancels Rs 780 Cr Power Sector Contract With Chinese Firm Amid Galwan Valley Clash

Ever since the violent clash between Indian and Chinese troops broke out in Galwan valley on Monday night, the calls to boycott Chinese contracts and products is growing.

Haryana: Amid the rising border tensions between India and China, Bharatiya Janata Party-led Haryana Government has decided to do away with its contracts worth Rs 780 Crore with Chinese firms for installing pollution control equipment at two of its thermal power facilities. CVoter Snap Poll | 93% Indians In Favour Of Boycotting Trade Relations With China Post Ladakh Face-Off Chinese companies had won the bid and secured the contracts for installing equipment at thermal power plants in Yamunanagar and Hisar. The bid was invited by the Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) for both these plants. While the Beijing SPC Environment Protection Tech was awarded a contract for the Deen Bandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Station in Yamunanagar, the Shanghai Electric Corp was shortlisted for the Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Plant in Hisar. However, the state government has now decided to cancel the contracts and invite fresh tenders but from companies registered in India only. According to an IANS reports, the Manohar Lal Khattar led government in a statement said that, “The government of Haryana has decided to cancel tenders issued to Chinese companies and to float fresh tenders based on the domestic bidding on the pattern of NTPC, which is allowing bidders which are registered in India only," a statement said. ALSO READ | From Indian Railways To State-Run Telecom Firms, India Boycotts China After Ladakh Face-Off From the state-run mobile service providers to Indian Railways PSUs, Indians firms are eventually barring Chinese vendors. On Thursday, the traders’ body Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) appealed to Bollywood celebrities to stop endorsing Chinese brands such as Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo. Protests against Chinese products have also happened in several places such as Mumbai, Varanasi, and Ahmedabad. According to a snap poll conducted by CVoter, as many as 93 percent of Indians are in favour of freezing all trade ties with China. Going by the detailed categorization of demographics, the ruling BJP-led Central government also voted in snapping away contracts with China. The survey report showed that while the opposition was clearly in a strident mood. Over 88 percent of opposition members expressed their anxiousness with China. And to a surprise, even the NDA members portrayed anti-China mood.
