Gurugram: Baby Dies After Police Vehicle Collides With Car; 5 Injured, Accused Absconding

Vikas Kaushik, ACP, Gurugram, on Sunday said that departmental proceedings will be initiated against the driver, special police officer (SPO) and head constable in connection with the incident.

New Delhi: A six-month-old girl died and five others were injured after a police emergency vehicle (ERV) rammed into their car on the Gurugram-Faridabad road on Sunday morning, officials said. The police said that the emergency vehicle of police was on its way to Gurugram from the Faridabad side and was allegedly being driven in the wrong direction.

The accident occurred at around 11 am near a red light close to Ghata village, they said.

Gurugram Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vikas Kaushik on Sunday said that departmental proceedings will be initiated against the driver, special police officer (SPO) and head constable in connection with the incident.

Police said the six-month-old girl, who lost her life in the accident, was identified as Saavi. Others in the car — Rinku (23), his son Priyank, sister Kajal, and mother Babita — suffered grievous injuries. Saavi is Kajal’s daughter.

"The police rushed to the spot after receiving the information of the accident. Three policemen, including the PCR van driver has been suspended," Vikas Kaushik said.

According to the eyewitnesses, the cops including the driver of the ERV managed to flee from the spot after leaving their vehicle, reported PTI.

The passersby helped the injured and rushed them to the hospital.

Vishwajeet, husband of one of the injured told ANI that his wife, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law, along with three children were on the way from Delhi to Faridabad.

"My daughter would have been alive today had the police officer took her to the hospital instead of fleeing from the accident site," ANI quoted Vishwajeet as saying.

An FIR has been registered against the ERV driver under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 304A (causing death by negligence), 427 (causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code at DLF phase 1 police station, Inspector Dinesh Kumar (SHO) DLF phase-1 police station said.
