Family's Sole Breadwinner, Dreamt Of Becoming Beautician: All About Anjali Who Died In Kanjhawala Accident — Report

Forced by her circumstances, Anjali had been risking her life to earn a living. She was forced to work at events after losing her job.

Anjali Singh had dreams of becoming a beautician and opening her own parlour ensuring to earn enough money to support her ailing mother, and three younger siblings. Her father passed away eight years ago after he was allegedly killed by a relative following a family feud over property, reported the Print.

The 20-year-old was fond of making Instagram reels and dressing up, the report added.

In the early hours of January 1 after leaving a New Year’s party, Anjali and her friend Neha were on a scooty with the former on the front seat. The scooty hit a Baleno car in which Anjali’s leg got entangled and the intoxicated men inside the car dragged her for about 12 kilometres leading to her death.

The incident has sparked a nationwide outrage including people in the national capital who are questioning the police’s apparent lack of commitment to make the city’s roads safer for residents.

Forced by her circumstances, Anjali had been risking her life to earn a living. She was forced to work at events after losing her job, the report quoted her friends and family members as saying.

Not having a job meant fluctuating income. On some days she would place a Rs 500 note in her mother’s hand and on better days, Rs 2,000 and the family was managing on that.

As per the report, on the night the incident happened, Anjali and Neha were working at a party in a Delhi hotel. She had told her mother, Rekha, that she would be back the next day before setting out from her home in Karan Vihar at around 6 pm on December 31.

But, in the morning, her sister got a call from the police informing them that Anjali had been in an accident and the family must rush to the hospital.

Lockdown and kidney-related ailments forced Rekha to leave her work at a school after which Anjali took a job at a beauty parlour to ensure income for the family.

Anjali, who studied only till class 9 quoted by her aunt as saying, had two sisters — one elder and another younger and both married — and two younger brothers. The family lived in a three-room set bought around five years ago.

Later Anjali lost her job and started attending events and weddings for work.

“She would sometimes go during the day, early morning, and return at night. Sometimes, she would come back only the next day. We don’t ask too many questions. That day she said she was going to a party. I called her twice around 9pm. That’s the last time we spoke. She asked me to have dinner and sleep and said she will return the next day,” Rekha said.

“Fate forced her to set foot out so late and work late hours. We knew it’s unsafe for women but she had no option,” she told the publication.

The autopsy report on Tuesday revealed that Anjali’s death was caused by “shock and haemorrhage as a result of ante mortem injury to the head, spine, left femur and both lower limbs. All injuries produced by blunt force impact and possible with vehicular accident and dragging”.

Her last rites were conducted on Tuesday and the police investigation is underway.
