1 Terrorist Killed In Encounter In Jammu And Kashmir's Rajouri, Search Ops On

A cordon and search operation was launched by the forces on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday when the gun battle broke out in the area.

At least one terrorist was killed after an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists during a cordon and search operation in Dassal forest area in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Friday, as reported by the news agency ANI. Security checks are being done and a search operation is underway. According to officials, the gunfight erupted in Dassal Mehari village area in Rajouri. The forces launched a cordon and search operation on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday when the gun battle broke out in the area, PTI reported citing sources . Confirming the incident, ADGP Mukesh Singh told PTI that the encounter was underway.

Earlier, a suspected Pakistani intruder was shot dead by the Border Security Force along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district on Thursday, officials said, as reported by the news agency PTI. The incident took place near Mangu Chak Border Out Post (BOP) in Samba sector around 2.50 am, they said.

Alert Border Security Force (BSF) troops noticed suspicious movements along the IB at BOP Mangu Chack and fired some rounds toward the forward area, resulting in killing of an intruder, the officials said. The BSF launched a search operation along the IB in Samba sector as the body was lying in the forward area.

The BSF troops deployed in the Jammu sector neutralised the intruder as he kept advancing towards border fencing despite warnings from the personnel. "In the early hours of June 1, 2023, the alert BSF troops noticed a suspicious movement of a person who crossed IB from the Pakistan side in the Samba area," the BSF said in a statement, as reported by the news agency ANI. He was challenged by the troops but the intruder kept advancing towards border fencing, said the BSF, which is mandated to guard the 3,323 km India-Pakistan border. "The troops fired on him and shot him dead. Further details are being ascertained," the BSF added.

Last week on SUnday, BSF intercepted and brought down a Pakistani drone that violated Indian airspace in Punjab's Amritsar sector, informed officials on Sunday. The BSF troops have recovered the drone and tied narcotics. Last month, troops of BSF shot down a Pakistani drone carrying narcotics along the international border in Punjab's Amritsar, said a BSF official. The official said that two packets suspected to be heroin were seized during the search.
