  • Prime Minister Modi completes roadshow on Delhi-Meerut Expressway, will reach Baghpat shortly to inaugurate Eastern Peripheral Expressway
Here are the key features of the expressway: The 135 km long expressway, which is being called the armour of Delhi will have six lanes teeming with a large number of trees. This is India’s first smart expressway which has been made with the newest technology. The street lighting on the expressway will be met by solar energy. A total of 11 thousand crore has been invested in the construction of the expressway. It has been completed in a record time of 500 days. 200 tonnes of steel has been used in the construction for the strength of the road. The significance of the expressway: The Expressway running along the peripheries of Delhi’s exterior, will not only reduce the burden of traffic on Delhi roads but will also reduce the pollution level of the city by diverting the traffic to the exteriors of the city. The expressway will connect Kundali of Sonipat to Palwal along the exterior of Delhi. Starting from Kundali in Haryana, it will pass through Noida, Ghaziabad and Baghpat districts of Uttar Pradesh and will connect it to Palwal. This will eliminate the Delhi route for connectivity between states like Punjab, Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, Himachal and Jammu Kashmir. People commuting between these states now do not need to go through Delhi. For better understanding, take a look at this map of the expressway: PM inaugurates Eastern Peripheral Expressway; launches attack on Congress This will reduce the load on Delhi’s roads and will also save time because of direct connectivity and comparatively lesser traffic.
