EAM Jaishankar To Go On 2-Day Visit To Egypt From October 15, Focus On Bilateral Trade

EAM Jaishankar will visit Egypt to discuss bilateral ties while focusing on enhancing trade between both counties.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will be on a two-day visit to Egypt from October 15. This will be his first trip to Egypt. A range of bilateral, regional, and international issues that are of mutual interest will be discussed during the meeting. He will also interact with Egypt's Indian community.

Egypt and India have always had cordial relations based on shared history and culture. This year, the two nations are commemorating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. Egypt has been asked to participate as a Guest Country in India's G-20 Presidency in 2022–2023.

One of India's key trading partners in Africa has been Egypt. One of the key topics of discussion during the visit will be the promotion of bilateral trade, commerce, and investments. In 2021–2022, bilateral trade between Egypt and India reached a record high of $7.26 billion USD.

India has made more than 3.15 billion dollars in investments in Egypt. In a plethora of sectors, including manufacturing, chemicals, energy, infrastructure, and retail, more than 50 Indian companies are now operating actively in Egypt.

As per the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit will “provide an opportunity to review the entire gamut of our bilateral and multilateral relations and to exchange views with the Egyptian leadership covering a whole range of issues of mutual interest.” It further added that the visit offers a chance to expand collaboration and explore new initiatives for the two countries alliance, it was said.

The need to boost trade at a time when the world is heading towards an alleged economical downfall is a must. It will provide us with some breathing room to survive.
