Delhi Violence: PM Modi Appeals For ‘Peace, Brotherhood,’ Says Police Working To Ensure Normalcy
As the death toll in the violent clashes between anti and pro-CAA protestors reached 20 on Wednesday, Prime Minister took to Twitter and said that calm and normalcy should be restored at the earliest.
New Delhi: In his first reaction to the outbreak of violence in northeast Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the people of Delhi to maintain peace and brotherhood at all times. As the death toll in the violent clashes between anti and pro-CAA protestors reached 20 on Wednesday, Prime Minister took to Twitter and said that calm and normalcy should be restored at the earliest.
Almost 190 people have been injured in the violence.
"Had an extensive review on the situation prevailing in various parts of Delhi. Police and other agencies are working on the ground to ensure peace and normalcy," Modi tweeted.
"Peace and harmony are central to our ethos. I appeal to my sisters and brothers of Delhi to maintain peace and brotherhood at all times. It is important that there is calm and normalcy is restored at the earliest," he added.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal termed the situation in the national capital as alarming. He said that the Army should be called in as police are unable to control the situation despite all its efforts following the violence in parts of northeast Delhi. Also Read: 'Situation Alarming, Army Should Be Called In,' Says CM Kejriwal Congress president Sonia Gandhi attacked the Centre over the present situation in Delhi and said that the Centre and the Union Home Minister are responsible for the present situation in Delhi. “There is a conspiracy behind the violence, the country also saw this during Delhi elections. Many BJP leaders made inciting comments creating an atmosphere of fear and hatred,” she said. Heavy security has been deployed in several areas of Northeast Delhi in the wake of incidents of violence and arson in the past 48 hours. Deployments have been made in Maujpur, Jafrabad, Seelampur and Gokulpuri areas.Peace and harmony are central to our ethos.
