Now Delhi's State & Private Hospitals Reserved Only For Delhiites, Says Kejriwal Amid Surge In Corona Cases

Kejriwal said if people from other cities come to Delhi for specific surgeries, they will be treated at specialised private hospitals. Rest private hospitals and all the state-run hospitals shall be reserved only for patients of Delhi.

New Delhi: In a major decision taken in a crucial meeting of Delhi cabinet, the Delhi government has decided to treat only the residents of Delhi in the state-run hospitals and private hospitals of the national capital, keeping in view the rapid rise in the Coronavirus cases. However, the Centre-run hospitals and few specialized private hospitals where special surgeries like neurosurgery are performed, will continue to treat patients from all the states He said that this set-up shall continue for few months as long as the Coronavirus pandemic is prevalent. Delhi government has 10,000 beds in its hospitals, and Central hospitals have 10,000 beds as well, he said. To strike a balance between patients from Delhi and patients from other states, he said that all state hospitals should be reserved for the local residents and all private hospitals except those specializing in certain treatments shall be treating only the patients in Delhi, while for those hailing from other states, Central government hospitals shall be open. He said if people from other cities come to Delhi for specific surgeries, they will be treated at private hospitals, which are specialized in the treatment. He said that over 90 per cent of suggestions wanted Delhi hospitals to treat patients from national capital during coronavirus pandemic. In a special appeal for elderly people, Kejriwal said that they should avoid interaction with even the members of their family as much as possible. "As a precautionary measure, the elderly people should have minimum interaction with their family members & others, especially children, as senior citizens are most vulnerable to the contagion. Try & remain in a single room of your house," he said. In another key announcement, the Delhi Chief Minister said that the borders of the national capital shall be opened from Monday. This would bring a major relief to the daily commuters in the North Capital Region, after a week of inconvenience due to sealing.
