'Your Son Is Still Alive': Delhi CM Commits To Provide Financial Aid To Elderly & Children Who Lost Breadwinners To Covid

Expressing concern over serious Covid cases, the Delhi CM reminded that ICU beds are still almost fully occupied which means that there are still a lot of serious cases of Coronavirus in the national capital.

New Delhi: Addressing the citizens through a virtual conference on Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made an emotional appeal for supporting families who have lost their earning members due to Covid-19 along with children who have lost both parents to the fatal infection.

The Delhi CM has committed that the state government will support such families and children in a financial capacity.

Financial Assistance To Children & Elderly

Expressing grief over the lives lost to the Covid crisis, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal talked about children who have lost their parents to Covid-19.

"I know many such children who have lost both parents, I want to tell the children that I understand their sorrow. But you should not worry, do not consider yourself an orphan. We will not let any child miss their studies, their education will continue and the government will bear the expenses of raising those children," he announced.

Talking about the elderly who have lost their young children who were the breadwinners of the family, he said: "Your son (referring to himself) is still alive. All such families in which the earning person has died, the government will help them".

While the government aims to provide financial assistance, the Delhi CM has appealed to all citizens to take care of such children and families who need love and empathy in these challenging times.

Covid Situation In Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had begun his address by talking about the improving Covid situation in the national capital.

"Around 8,500 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in Delhi and the positivity rate has come down to 12 percent in the last 24 hours," he said recalling cases going over 28,000 on April 20.

"The number of people admitted in hospitals has also reduced significantly in the last 10 days, Covid-19 patients in the hospitals of Delhi have reduced by more than 3000 which means there are 3000 beds that are empty so people will not have to face as much difficulty in getting beds".

Expressing concern over serious Covid cases, the Delhi CM reminded that ICU beds are still almost fully occupied which means that there are still a lot of serious cases of Coronavirus in the national capital. 1200 ICU beds are being added, he said.

He lauded the citizens for their cooperation in reducing the Covid infection rate by adhering to the strict lockdown in Delhi. He credited their disciplined behaviour for the reduction in cases warning that the battle is not over, talking about reducing the case count to 0. 

"There is no guarantee that the cases will remain low, Delhi may have face the crisis once again," the Chief Minister said while urging citizens to remain cautious.

He has assured that the government is working on augmenting necessary medical facilities to prepare in case the situation in the national capital worsens again.
