Coronavirus: 64-Year-Old Patient Passes Away At Mumbai's Kasturba Hospital; Death Toll Rises To 3 In India

New Delhi: A 64-year-old patient of COVID-19 novel coronavirus in India passed away on Tuesday in Mumbai’s Kasturba Hospital, making it India’s third reported death since the outbreak of the contagion here. The patient became the first such victim in Maharashtra, which has the highest number of positive COVID-19 cases. The man was under treatment at the state-run Kasturba Hospital in south-central Mumbai for the past few days. 'Death of 63-year-old male patient admitted at Kasturba Hospital is confirmed. He had high blood pressure, pneumonia & inflammation of heart muscles and increased heart rate leading to death. He tested positive for COVID19,' Municipal Corporation Greater Mumbai informed. The Mumbai-based man, who had a travel history to Dubai, was under treatment at the state-run Kasturba Hospital in south central Mumbai where he was shifted after five days treatment at a private hospital. His wife is also a COVID-19 positive patient under treatment and her condition is described as 'stable'. There are another 38 coronavirus positive patients admitted in hospitals across the state. The total number of positive cases of novel coronavirus in India shot up to 126 on Tuesday, as 11 fresh cases were detected after Monday.  The total of 125 cases also include foreign nationals. On Monday the total number of cases were detected to be 114. Also Read | Coronavirus: Total Positive Cases Of COVID-19 Rise To 126 In India; 13 Patients Cured A state-wise data, compiled on Tuesday at 09:15 AM, on the Health Ministry's website showed that Maharashtra continues to top the chart with the most number of cases -39, as per health officials in the western state, followed by Kerala, which has total 24 cases. So far 13,19,363 passengers have been screened at airport. Meanwhile, Government of India on Tuesday prohibited travel of passengers from Afghanistan, Philippines, Malaysia to India till 31st March, with immediate effect, in addition to the existing travel restrictions.
