Congress Suspends Sunil Jakhar's Nephew For 'Indulging In Anti-Party Activities'

Sandeep Jakhar, 46, is a first-time MLA from Abohar and the nephew of Sunil Jakhar, the current Punjab BJP president and former state Congress chairman.

Congress party on Saturday suspended MLA Sandeep Jakhar from Punjab for reportedly engaging in "anti-party activities," news agency ANI reported. Jakhar was charged after Punjab Congress chairman Amrinder Singh Raja Warring submitted a complaint. Sandeep Jakhar, 46, is a first-time MLA from Abohar and the nephew of Sunil Jakhar, the current Punjab BJP president and former state Congress chairman.

The suspension order, dated August 16, and addressed to Sandeep Jakhar, stated as follows: “The President, Punjab PCC has complained that you are indulging in anti-party activities in the following manner.”

Jakhar was also accused of open rebellion against the party, according to the communication.

Highlighting the “anti-party activities”, the suspension order further reads: “You have not been participating in any of the party programmes including the Bharat Jodo Yatra; the house in which you stay is a common accommodation on which a BJP flag flies atop; you have been speaking against the party and the PCC President; you are openly defending your uncle Sunil Jakhar.”

“After careful consideration, the DAC has decided to place you under suspension from the party with immediate effect,” it added.

Jakhar, the first-time MLA, and Warring had previously engaged in a verbal brawl. Warring allegedly threatened Jakhar to resign from the Congress and seek re-election "if he was so confident about their support in Abohar."

Sandeep Jakhar then dared Warring to fire him by serving him with a notice, PTI reported.
