PM Modi To Inaugurate Chenab Bridge Today: What Makes It A Unique Engineering Marvel?

PM Modi will inaugurate the Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge, and Anji Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chenab Bridge, a strategic and durable marvel, will boost connectivity, military mobility, and socio-economic development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Chenab Bridge during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. During his visit, he will also inaugurate the bridge deck and India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, Anji Bridge. 

He will also flag off Vande Bharat Trains at around 12 noon and lay the foundation stone and inaugurate  projects worth over Rs 46,000 crore at Katra. 

The Vande Bharat train running on the bridge will cut the travel time between Katra and Srinigar by 2-3 hours. 

Chenab Bridge: Salient Features 

Higher Than Eiffel Tower: The Chenab Bridge is the world's highest railway bridge with a height of 359 metres from the riverbed, making it higher than France's Eiffel Tower. 

Engineering Marvel: The infrastructure is nothing less than an engineering marvel as it was constructed in the challenging topography of Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district. The construction of the bridge also withstood severe geological, seismic, and weather-related obstacles. 

Strategic Importance: The Chenab bridge is a significant part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Lik project which connects the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India by rail. 

Military Mobility: The blast resistant and seismic resilient structure of the Chenab bridge will support quick military deployment and logistics, bossing India's military mobility and defence in sensitive border region. 

Socio-Economic Impact: The Chenab Bridge will boost connectivity and stimulate economic growth, tourism, and social development in Jammu and Kashmir. 

Built to Last — A Bridge for the Future: Engineered with a projected lifespan of 120 years, the Chenab Rail Bridge is designed for durability. It can withstand extreme forces, from winds gusting up to 266 km/h to seismic shocks and even explosions.
