CBI to question Chidambaram in INX media case today

Hours after securing protection from arrest in Aircel-Maxis case from a city court on Wednesday, Chidambaram moved the Delhi High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the CBI's INX media corruption case but did not get relief.

New Delhi: CBI has summoned former Union Minister P Chidambaram in its Delhi office today for questioning regarding INX media scam case. The questioning will begin at 10 am on Thursday. The CBI has prepared a list of over three dozen questions based on the talks with former owners Peter and Indrani Mukerjea. Hours after securing protection from arrest in Aircel-Maxis case from a city court in Wednesday, Chidambaram moved the Delhi High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the CBI's INX media corruption case, but they did not get a relief as of now. Among the questions that will be put up before Chidambaram are:
  • How do you know Idrani and Peter Mukherjee?
  • Who contacted for FIPB permission?
  • Why was the ministry quiet when Rs 300 crore was brought in from foreign without permission?
  • Why did ministry evade the questions of the Income Tax department?
Watch report: According to advocate P K Dubey who filed the plea on behalf of Chidambaram, the matter was mentioned in-chamber before a bench of acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar, which allowed it to be listed later today. The lawyer said that subsequently, the matter came up before Justice S P Garg who recused from hearing it. Earlier in the day, the senior Congress leader had moved his plea for anticipatory bail in the Aircel Maxis money laundering case before Special Judge O P Saini, who directed him to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on June 5 as per the summons already issued by the agency. The court, which also issued a notice to the ED seeking its reply by June 5, also directed it not to take any coercive action against Chidambaram in the matter till then.
