BJP runs campaign against Mayawati for 'harassing' Dayashankar's kin

New Delhi: The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) will now run a campaign against Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati and some of her party leaders after Swati Singh, wife of expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh accused Mayawati of using “abusive language” against female members of her family and of raising “derogatory slogans” during party protest. Mayawati has also been accused of dragging Dayashankar’s 12-year-old daughter into the row. Swati claimed that both her and her family had to face a lot of trauma because of all the violence and protests. Singh's mother Tetra Devi filed the complaint alleging Mayawati on Friday over the same accusations. On the basis of Tetra Devi's complaint, an FIR was lodged against Mayawati, state unit president Ram Achal Rajbhar, national general secretary Naseemuddin and national secretary Mevalal besides unknown workers, police said. As raids were conducted by police overnight to trace Singh, the BJP sought to turn the tables on Mayawati, asking her to tender an apology and take action against her party leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui for his abusive language targeting Singh's daughter. "We will now demand the arrest of BSP leaders who had crossed all limits in abusing and degrading women members of the family", Dayashankar's family said. Earlier in the day, Tetra Devi met the Hazratganj Police and submitted the complaint that she, her daughter, daughter-in-law and grand daughter were abused by BSP men who allegedly raised derogatory slogans during the protest. "There was an attempt to instigate violence and riot during the protest by highlighting differences on caste lines", she alleged in the complaint, adding that slogans at the protest amounted to outraging the modesty of a woman. She said after the sloganeering during the protest, Singh's 12-year-old daughter was in shock. Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Jha said that raids were conducted last night but there was no clue about Singh's whereabouts. The SP said that Singh's brother Dharmendra was detained for questioning, but failed to give any information. Mayawati on her part said Dayashankar's mother, daughter or wife should have condemned what he said but they maintained silence. "When our party workers spoke against them then they realised how it feels to be abused. So that's why some people said, this was to make Dayashankar realise the pain. So that in future he should not be abusive to anyone's daughter or wife."
