BJP MLAs blame 'corrupt' UP bureaucracy for bypoll losses in Kairana and Noorpur

The loss in UP has also allowed Modi’s confidant Zafar Sareshwala to express his views. In a Twitter post he said for BJP to lose in a communally sensitive region like Kairana is a clear message that the people have rejected communal polarization and will not get divided under caste lines. He also said that Lalu Prasad Yadav can’t be written off and went on to congratulate Tejashwi Yadav.

New Delhi: The string of losses for BJP in bypolls of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday has pulled the rug from under its feet. The results in Kairana and Noorpur have prompted leaders from the party to vocally criticize the leadership and the corrupt state administration. Shyam Prakash, MLA from Gopamau has penned a poem on Facebook where he has asked the leadership to reflect the losses and to keep in mind how it won the battle under the Modi wave. He directly blamed the depraved UP bureaucracy for the loss. Another legislator Surendra Singh from Balia also blamed the corrupt administrative officers in the state for harassing people. He said the bypoll result is a good message to the leadership ahead of 2019 polls. The loss in UP has also allowed PM Narendra Modi’s confidant Zafar Sareshwala to express his views. In a Twitter post he said for BJP to lose in a communally sensitive region like Kairana is a clear message that the people have rejected communal polarization and will not get divided under caste lines. He also said that Lalu Prasad Yadav can’t be written off and went on to congratulate Tejashwi Yadav for Jokihat bypoll victory. BJP lost by over 45,000 votes in Kairana to RLD candidate Tabassum Hasan who had a massive support of all opposition parties. It lost to SP candidate by more than 9,000 votes in Noorpur assembly constituency. Earlier this year, BJP lost to SP-BSP joint candidate from Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha constituencies. The four reasons cited for BJP’s defeats in Kairana and Noorpur are – not being able to effectively gain from raking up the Jiinnah issue. The united opposition’s strength outweighed the BJP giants. Jats and Dalits are aggrieved and not happy with the state leaders. Sugarcane farmers highly troubled by PM Modi’s reneged promises.
