Bandipora Encounter: Two Unidentified Terrorists Neutralized, Arms & Ammunition Recovered; Search Ops On

At least two unidentified terrorists were gunned down by the Jammu & Kashmir security forces during an encounter at Watnira area of Bandipora on Sunday morning.

New Delhi: In sudden turn of events, at least two unidentified terrorists were gunned down by the Jammu & Kashmir security forces during an encounter at Watnira area of Bandipora on Sunday morning. 

As reported by news agency ANI, the Jammu and Kashmir Police informed that incriminating materials including arms and ammunition have been recovered from the possession of terrorists. 

According to media reports, security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Watrina area of Bandipora in north Kashmir following inputs about the presence of heavily armed terrorists there. The search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened fire upon following which the forces retaliated strongly.

As per the early inputs, Jammu & Kashmir Police and security forces are still present at the spot and search operation is still going on. Further details shall follow. 

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar in a statement informed that one of the killed terrorist was involed in the killing of BJP leader late Waseem Bari. "In a joint op, two terrorists have been neutralised in the encounter. Both have been identified; one locally trained and 1 trained in Pakistan. One was involved in the killing of BJP leader late Waseem Bari." 

Former district president of BJP Bandipore, Shiekh Waseem Bari along with his father and brother were killed by militants in 2020. Some unidentified terrorists had shot Shiekh Waseem Bari at his shop at Muslimabad town of Bandipore in the evening. In the attack, Bari’s father Bashir Ahmad and younger brother Umar were also injured. All three later succumbed to their injuries.
