Azam Khan Apologises For Making Lewd Remarks Against BJP MP

The trouble is likely to mount for Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan who landed in soup after making lewd remarks against Lok Sabha Chief Panel member Rama Devi

New Delhi: After making lewd remarks against Lok Sabha Chief Panel member Rama Devi, SP MP on Monday apologised after he was called in the office of the speaker ahead of the session. Taking  on Azam, MP  Rama Devi said "Azam Khan ji's remark has hurt both women and men in India. He will not understand this. Inki aadat bigadi hui hai, zaroorat se zada bigadi hui hai. I have not come here to hear such comments". Meri aisi koi bhavna Chair ke prati na thi na ho sakti hai. Mere bhashan aur acharan ko sara sadan janta hai, iske bawjood bhi Chair ko aisa lagta hai ki mere se koi galti hui hai toh main uski kshama chahta hun. Speaking on the controversy, Khan said "I never had such a thoughts about the Chair and nor can I ever have. The entire house knows about my speech and conduct; if in spite of this Chair thinks I have done wrong, then I apoligise" he said. This comes after reports on Azam's suspension if he refuses to apologise floated ahead of the session. The matter was taken up as soon as the house resumed as the remaining days of the house will not have question answer round. Before this, speaker Om Birla was authorized to take an action on the matter. Manjhi defends Azam Khan: Former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Sunday defended Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan's remarks against BJP MP Rama Devi in Lok Sabha, saying they were not taken in the right spirit. "When brothers and sisters, mothers and sons meet and plant a kiss by way of affection, the gesture is not seen as having sexual overtones. Azam Khan's words are not being taken in the right spirit," Manjhi told reporters. "I therefore hold the opinion that he need not resign but since all parties have objections he should tender an apology and be done with the matter," Manjhi, who was on a tour of Newada, said.
