Attack TMC Leaders In ‘Talibani Style’, Tripura BJP MLA's Comment Stirs Row

“I appeal to all of you that we need to attack them in Talibani style. We need to attack them once they land at the airport here,” PTI quoted Bhowmik as saying.

Agartala: Tripura Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Arun Chandra Bhowmik has stoked a controversy for asking his party workers to counter the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders in Talibani style if they land at the Agartala airport.

“I appeal to all of you that we need to attack them in Talibani style. We need to attack them once they land at the airport here,” PTI quoted Bhowmik as saying.

“We will protect our government led by Biplab Kumar Deb with every drop of blood,” he added.

The BJP MLA made this remark earlier on Wednesday during a felicitation ceremony for newly-inducted Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhowmik at Belonia old town hall in South Tripura district.

The BJP has, however, distanced itself from the MLA’s remark. The BJP said it is the MLA’s version and not that of the saffron party.

Bhowmik, who is the MLA from Tripura’s Belonia constituency, said the TMC is trying to harm Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb-led government in the state that came to power by ending the 25-year-long Communist rule.

He added all these are happening due to the instigation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The BJP MLA’s remark come as the TMC leaders, including its national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, with an eye on the 2023 Tripura Assembly polls are frequently visiting the hilly state to try and build a base and an organisation for the party which till now has been confined to West Bengal.
