Anantnag: Terrorists opened fire at the wife and daughter of a Jammu and Kashmir constable on Tuesday evening in the Kokagund Verinag area of the Anantnag district.

The attack left the head constable's wife, Nahida, 38, and daughter Madiha, 16, injured. “The injured have been shifted to hospital for treatment,” the police said.

The attack on the family of the constable comes on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha.

The Kashmir Police said, “Terrorists this evening barged into the house of police personnel Sajad Ah at Kokagund, Verinag & fired indiscriminately. In this terror incident, his wife Nahida and daughter Mahida recieved gunshot injuries. Injured shifted to hospital. Area cordoned off.”

The Kashmir Police further added that one of the attackers has been identified as Mufti Altaf, a terrorist of proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed Mufti Altaf.

Head Constable Malik is posted at the India Reserve Police's 15th Battalion in Jammu.

Meanwhile, Anantnag Police on Tuesday claimed to have prevented 14 youth from joining militant ranks.

As per a police statement, preliminary investigation revealed that the 14 boys in the age group of 18-22 years were in constant touch with various local militants over social media and also being lured by those based in Pakistan to get recruited in militancy folds.

Police conducted a counselling-cum-interaction session with the youth so as to prevent them from falling prey to "anti-national propaganda", police said.
