All Padma Awardees To Be Given Monthly Pension, Allowed Free Bus Travel: Haryana CM Khattar

Apart from this, all the awardees will also get the facility of free travel in Haryana Government buses.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday announced that the people of the state, who have received Padma awards, will be given a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 by the state government. Apart from this, all the awardees will also get the facility of free travel in Haryana Government buses, news agency ANI reported.

Earlier this year, two persons from Haryana including Gurugram-based agro scientist Dr Bakshi Ram, and a gurukul teacher devoted to girls' education Dr Sukama were awarded Padma Shri Awards for their contribution.

Dr. Sukama, who was born in 1961, has committed her life to the service of the nation and community. For the past 40 years, she has served in a variety of positions. She is currently the Principal of Vishwas Kanya Gurukul in Roorkee village, Rohtak, The Tribune reported.

Dr. Sukama has received recognition from a number of prestigious national and international bodies.

On the other hand, Dr. Bakshi Ram is best recognised for creating the sugarcane variety CO-0238, which presently accounts for more than 70% of the sugarcane land in Northern India.

Dr Bakshi, who retired as the Director of the Coimbatore ICAR Sugarcane Breeding Institute, now works as a consultant in several sugar mills and advocates for the welfare of cane farmers, The Tribune reported.

The Centre is in contact with the wrestlers who are calling for a bandh in Haryana on June 14 in response to calls for the arrest of former WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, according to Haryana Chief Minister Khattar on Monday.

"The Bandh call has been given but first, there should be talks," CM further stated.

Earlier this month, the Haryana government invited nominations for the Padma Awards, which include the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. These accolades, which rank among the highest given to civilians, will be presented on January 26, 2024, Republic Day.
