Air India Reports Massive Data Breach! Credit Card Details, Passport Info Of 4.5 Mn Customers Compromised

The airline confirmed that the CVV of credit cardholders won't be compromised. It is being said that other airlines are also likely to be affected due to this breach. 

New Delhi: India's national airline carrier, Air India has reported a massive cyber attack. It is being reported that the personal details of passengers including credit card information and passport details were stolen. The data which was breached was between August 2011 and February 2021. 

The airline confirmed that the CVV of credit cardholders won't be compromised. It is being said that other airlines are also likely to be affected due to this breach. 

Several reports also suggest that data of many global airlines were also compromised in the cyber attack. The list includes Malaysia Airlines, Finnair, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa and Cathay Pacific.

“This is to inform that SITA PSS our data processor of the passenger service system (which is responsible for storing and processing of personal information of the passengers) had recently been subjected to a cybersecurity attack leading to personal data leak of certain passengers. This incident affected around 4,500,000 data subjects in the world," read a statement released by Air India.

Meanwhile, the national air carrier has asserted that measures to ensure safety of data is being immediately taken.

These measure include investigating data security incident, securing compromised servers, engaging external specialists of data security . incidents,notifying&liaising with credit card issuers,resetting passwords of Air India FFP prog
