Another Air India Boeing 787 Develops Technical Glitch Mid Air, Returns To Honk Kong After Spots Snag

Air India flight AI315 returned to Hong Kong mid-air due to a suspected technical glitch. All passengers are safe. The Boeing 787-8 is under inspection. This follows a recent fatal crash in Ahmedabad.

Air India’s Delhi-bound Flight AI315 returned to Hong Kong mid-air after the pilot detected a suspected technical glitch aboard the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, according to sources.

Flight AI 315, operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had taken off from Hong Kong at 12:16 PM local time and was scheduled to arrive in Delhi at 12:20 PM IST. However, the aircraft turned back as a precautionary measure and landed safely in Hong Kong, the airline confirmed.

“All passengers have safely disembarked, and the aircraft is currently undergoing a thorough inspection,” Air India said in an official statement. The flight had already experienced a significant delay, departing nearly three and a half hours behind its original schedule of 8:50 AM, according to flight tracking data from Flightradar24. “Flight AI 315, operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 16 June 2025, returned to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff due to a suspected technical issue.

The aircraft landed safely and is now undergoing checks as a matter of abundant precaution,” the airline stated. Air India also assured that alternative travel arrangements are being made to transport passengers to Delhi as soon as possible.

“We are providing all necessary ground assistance to minimize inconvenience caused by this unexpected disruption,” the airline added. This incident comes just days after a devastating crash involving another Air India Boeing 787-8 on June 12. That flight, bound for London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing 274 people, including 33 on the ground.

Updates On Ahmedabad Air India Crash

Investigators recovered the cockpit voice recorder from the Air India flight that crashed in Ahmedabad, killing 274 people. Combined with the earlier-recovered flight data recorder, it will help determine the cause. A full investigation is underway with U.S. and Indian authorities.
