ABP News impact: Dhyeya IAS Coaching Institute offers to sponsor education of vegetable seller Dhavendra Sahu

New Delhi: Dhavendra Sahu, 17-year-old, is not an ordinary vegetable vendor but Chhattisgarh’s topper in this year’s class 12 state board examination. Sahu, who scored 98.6%, sells vegetables with his mother at the local market of Balod district’s Laundi village. He came first among 3.95 lakh students who took the examination, results of which were declared in April. Sahu’s family has no money. He returned dejected from the coaching hub of Rajasthan’s Kota after failing to arrange the annual average fee of 1.3 lakh rupees for admission in a tutorial.His dream is getting into an IIT. However, as a result of ABP News impact, Dhyeya IAS Coaching Institute in Delhi has offered to sponsor the education of Sahu. According to the boy, Balod district administration had assured him financial help for further studies but the promises have not yet translated into money. Sahu's father is a marginal farmer with a meager income. He even tried for admission into the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani but here too he failed because of lack of money. Sahu secured 493 marks out of a total of 500 in the board examination and got 99 each in both chemistry and mathematics. The lowest Sahu got was 93 in English. Interestingly, the state government of Chhattisgarh government will give a cash award of 1.1 lakh rupees to each student on the merit list, but the money will be disbursed only in September and by then, it would be too late for Sahu.
