General Motors Launches Hummer EV - World's First Electric Super-Truck; Goes From Zero To 60 KMPH In 3 Secs
The US carmaker unveiled the third generation Hummer calling it the ‘first-of-its kind supertruck developed to forge new paths with zero emissions’.
New Delhi: The General Motors on Wednesday launched the much-awaited Hummer EV 2022 also known as the electric version of Hummer. The company resurrected the brand after 11 years of discontinuation under the GMC lineup. The US carmaker unveiled the third generation Hummer calling it the ‘first-of-its kind supertruck developed to forge new paths with zero emissions’. “This innovative truck comes to market with speed and purpose, bringing GM another step closer to an all-electric future," said Mark Reuss, president of General Motors. “With our Ultium Drive architecture as the foundation for an exceptionally broad range of performance, Hummer EV is perfect for the customer who wants capability, efficiency and performance," Reuss added.
The gas guzzling SUV, which was considered as the symbol of masculinity on the road, now will be setting up new records for zero emission.
The new Hummer EV will come with three electric motors that are capable of producing 1,000 horsepower. The 24-module, double-stacked Ultium battery is claimed to provide the new Hummer a range of at least 563 kms. The battery also supports 800-volt fast charging up to 350 kW. According to GMC, it can add an extra 160 kms of range in just 10 minutes charge. It can do a sprint of zero to 60 Kmph in about 3 seconds. While Hummer is an old name, the EV will be an all-new model. The Hummer EV will go on sale in fall, 2021, and at first only the most expensive Edition 1 model will be available; less expensive models will be launched by the start of 2022. The new Hummer EV will be available in a price range from Rs 58 Lakh to 82 Lakh in the US. The new Hummer EV has changed a lot from its predecessors. The several H motives around the vehicle that catch immediate attention. The wheel arches are now bigger in size to accommodate an astounding 35-inch tires, which can be further upgraded to 37-inch wheels aftermarket. Besides the regular off-road capabilities, the Hummer is enabled with Crab Mode diagonal driving and 18 camera views including angles under the truck for getting over rocks. It also gets Super Cruise, a feature that helps automatic lane-changing. The production for the new Hummer EV is expected to begin late next year. The Hummer brand was discontinued in 2009 due to brand’s poor performance.The Quiet Revolution has begun.
