New Delhi: There was ruckus in the Karnataka legislative assembly which had convened for a day-long session. Congress MLC's forcefully removed the chairman of the legislative council, K Pratapachandra Shetty, claiming that he was made to sit in the Chair illegally. Shetty has adjourned the session sine die.
"BJP& JDS made the Chairman sit in the Chair illegally when House was not in order. It is unfortunate that BJP is doing such unconstitutional things. Congress asked him to get down from the Chair. We had to evict him as it was an illegal sitting," said Congress MLC Prakash Rathod, Karnataka in a tweet by ANI.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Lehar Singh Siroya, said, "Few MLCs behaved like goons by forcibly removed Vice-Chairman of Legislative council from the chair & misbehaving with him. We've never seen such a shameful day in our council's history. I'm feeling ashamed about what the public might be thinking about us."
According to a report by PTI, Shetty has been accused of "abruptly" adjourning the session sine die on December 10. The BJP government has decided to convene the House is insisting on a no-confidence motion against the Chairman while the Congress opposes it. The tabling of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill was also expected today. For a bill to become law, its passage in the Council, followed by assent by the Governor is necessary.
