'Habitual Offender', BJP's Kalyanaraman Arrested For Cyber Harassment

Another complaint was filed by DMK MP for Dharmapuri Dr Senthilkumar for posting defamatory comments against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP working committee member Kalayanaraman was arrested for sharing 18 tweets against people with other religious beliefs in the past two months on Saturday. Kalayanaraman was earlier arrested for defamatory comments against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi and for abusive tweets against political leaders.

According to the press note, a lawyer Gopi from Tondiarpet gave a complaint against Kalayaraman (functioning from Twitter handle @BjpKalyaan) for posting social media content that can incite enmity between different religions and can cause social disharmony between religious groups. Hence, the lawyer sought cyber crime police to take action against the habitual offender.

Another complaint was filed by DMK MP for Dharmapuri Dr Senthilkumar for defamatory comments against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi.

Following the complaints, police formed a special force and arrested Kalyanaraman on Saturday night. He was later produced before the court on Sunday.

Taking to social media, MP Senthil said, “Habitual offender, women harasser and abuser from BJP, Kalyaan has been arrested. His Twitter ID will soon be suspended.”

Kalayanaraman was earlier arrested in February for his speech against the Muslim community and Prophet Mohammed in Mettupalayam during a BJP election rally. The Coimbatore Collector K Rajamani also invoked Goondas Act against him. However, the Madras High Court later struck down the order due to the government's delay to file a response.
