Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22: Excise Licenses Of Liquor Shops Extended; Wait For Alcohol Home Delivery Continues

The excise department in an order on Thursday said that the government has approved the new excise policy 2021-22 which is likely to be implemented in the next three months. The excise department will renew the licenses that are coming to an end by June 30, the order said. 

New Delhi: A day after approving the new excise policy 2021-22, the Delhi government has announced to to extend the excise license of liquor shops, clubs, restro-bars and other establishments by three more months till September 30.

The excise department in an order on Thursday said that the government has approved the new excise policy 2021-22 which is likely to be implemented in the next three months. The excise department will renew the licenses that are coming to an end by June 30, the order said.

"Therefore, in order to ensure smooth and uninterrupted supply of authorised liquor in Delhi, it has been decided to extend/renew all existing licenses for a further period of 3 months up to 30.09.2021, commencing from 01.07.2021," the order added. 

As per the notice, the licenses will only be renewed after the payment of proportionate license fees on or before June 30 for the period of three months. 

The Delhi government under the new excise policy 2021-22 allowed home delivery of liquor for orders placed through mobile applications and websites. It is to be noted that though the amended excise rules come into effect from today (Friday, June 11), the home delivery of liquor will take some time as the government is yet to issue the terms and conditions to implement it.

For the home delivery of alcohol, a license called the 'L-13 License' is required however  there were no takers for the licence due to alleged "impracticality of the rules". According to PTI, the government till date has not issued a single L-13 Licence so far.
