Coronavirus Highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to have three meetings on Friday on the coronavirus crisis in the country. The prime minister will review the Covid-19 related situation in an internal meeting at 9 am, followed by a meeting at 10 am with chief ministers of states that have a high number of Covid-19 cases, and then at 12:30 he will hold a meeting with the leading oxygen manufacturers in the country through video conferencing.
Later in the day, The Supreme Court will take a suo moto cognizance of the situation in India. The SC has raised 4 concerns which the country is facing and has sought a national plan from the Centre regarding the same.
Delhi, battling a devastating wave of coronavirus and a recurring, appalling oxygen shortage, recorded its highest ever fatalities over the last 24 hours -- 306 people died as more than 26,000 cases were logged. The total number of fatalities have gone up to 13,193 and the caseload to 9,56,348, of which 91,618 are active cases.
The positivity rate has also gone up -- the current figure is 36.24 per cent.
India's "Oxygen Express" train made its first run on Thursday from Visakhapatnam to Maharashtra, where COVID-19 cases have been rising fast and hospitals have been gasping for oxygen supply for critical patients. The train carrying oxygen tankers left the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam (RINL) facility at the Andhra Pradesh town Thursday evening.
