Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will announce the party’s chief ministerial candidate for Punjab on Sunday.
The announcement will be made at 2 pm through a virtual rally that Gandhi will address from Ludhiana, an official tweet from the Punjab Youth Congress said.
Gandhi is in the state to gather voter feedback to zero in on the chief ministerial candidate.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address a public rally in western Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat today. According to ANI sources, "Shah's rally in Baghpat, a Jat dominated area, is aimed to woo members of Jat community many of whom participated in the farmers' agitation on the borders of Delhi after Centre passed three farm laws."
Amit Shah's rally in Baghpat is aimed to cover Chhaprauli, Baraut, and Baghpat assembly seats which will go to the polls in the first phase of elections i.e., February 10. He will also address a public meeting in the Amroha district.
Mumbai Sessions Court has asked police to submit their reply within two days in the bail plea of 18-year-old accused Shweta Singh arrested in connection with the Bulli Bai App case. The court posted the matter for further hearing on February 8. Shweta Singh had approached Mumbai Sessions Court after Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Court rejected her bail plea.
A Bandra court had earlier sent co-accused Shweta Singh along with another accused Mayank Rawat into 14-day judicial custody till January 28. Prior to this, they were sent to Mumbai Cyber Cell police custody till January 14 after being arrested from Uttarakhand on January 5.

RBI postpones MPC meet to Feb 8 as Maharashtra declares public holiday on Monday
Mumbai, Feb 6 (PTI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Sunday announced rescheduling the meeting of rate-setting Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) by a day in view of Maharashtra declaring public holiday on February 7 to mourn death of Bharat Ratna legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.
The MPC meeting was scheduled for February 7-9, 2022.
With the postponement, the meeting will now begin on February 8 and the outcome would be announced on February 10.
"With February 7, 2022 being declared a public holiday by the Government of Maharashtra under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 as a mark of respect to Bharat Ratna Ku. Lata Mangeshkar, the MPC meeting has been rescheduled to February 8-10, 2022," the RBI said in a late evening statement.
In a separate release, the RBI said that there will be no transactions and settlements in government securities (primary and secondary), foreign exchange, money markets and Rupee Interest Rate Derivatives on February 7, 2022.
"Settlement of all outstanding transactions will accordingly get postponed to the next working day i.e., February 8, 2022," the release said.
Transactions under Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) Fixed rate Reverse Repo and MSF operations, for which the second leg settlement date was February 7, 2022 will now mature on the next working day i.e., February 8, 2022.
Further, the daily LAF Fixed rate Reverse Repo and MSF windows will be available as usual on February 7, 2022, the release stated.
Mangeshkar, whose voice struck an instant chord of recognition with generations of South Asians and is considered one of India's greats, died in a Mumbai hospital on Sunday due to multiple organ failure. She was 92.
The Reserve Bank is likely to maintain the status quo on key policy rates in its next bi-monthly economic policy, which will be the first after the presentation of the Union Budget for 2022-23.
Experts, however, are of the opinion that RBI's MPC may change the policy stance from 'accommodative' to 'neutral' and tinker with the reverse-repo rate as part of the liquidity normalisation process.

Full office attendance for all central govt employees from Monday: Union minister Jitendra Singh
New Delhi, Feb 6 (PTI) Union minister Jitendra Singh has said full office attendance will be resumed for all central government employees from Monday.
The decision was taken in view of a decline in the number of coronavirus cases, he said on Sunday.
"A review of the pandemic situation was done today and in view of a decline in the number of Covid cases as well as a decline in the positivity rate, it has been decided that full office attendance shall be resumed from tomorrow and employees at all levels, without any exemption, shall attend office on a regular basis with effect from February 7, 2022," the minister of state for personnel said.
He said the heads of the departments shall, however, ensure that the employees wear face masks at all times and continue to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour.
The Centre had, on January 31, extended the work-from-home arrangement for 50 per cent of its employees below the level of under secretary till February 15.
"But after obtaining inputs from the relevant quarters and a review of the situation, a fresh office memorandum has been issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), informing that all the employees at all levels, without any exemption, will report to office from tomorrow, that is, February 7," Singh said.
There will be no "work-from-home" option for any employee anymore, he added.
The personnel ministry had, on January 3, issued an order allowing work from home for 50 per cent of the employees below the level of under secretary till January 31 in view of a spike in the number of coronavirus cases.
