Punjab Announces Summer Holidays In Schools From May 21 To June 30 Amid Heatwave Conditions

 The Punjab government on Monday announced summer holidays in all government, aided and private schools from May 21 to June 30 amid severe heatwave conditions.Several areas in Punjab and Haryana are witnessing maximum temperatures in the 43-45 degrees Celsius range.In its order, the Education department said keeping in mind the warning issued by the weather office regarding heatwave conditions and the health of children, holidays are being declared in Punjab's schools -- government, aided and private.On Saturday, the department changed the school timing to keep classes open from 7 am till noon. This order was to be enforced till May 31.

Iran President Death: Govt Announces One-Day State Mourning On May 21

A one-day state mourning will be observed across India on Tuesday as a mark of respect for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash, the Union Home Ministry has announced.The national flag will be flown at half-mast on all buildings where it is regularly flown across India and there will be no official entertainment during the period of state mourning.

The Iranian president, the country's foreign minister and several other officials were found dead on Monday, hours after their helicopter crashed in a foggy, mountainous region of the country's northwest, Iran state media reported.A home ministry spokesperson said Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Hossein Amit-Abdollahian, the country's foreign minister, passed away in a helicopter crash.

As a mark of respect to the departed dignitaries, the government of India has decided that there will be one day's state mourning on May 21 (Tuesday) throughout India, the spokesperson said.On the day of mourning, the national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India on all buildings where the national flag is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day, the official added.

Delhi's Karkardooma Court Grant Bail To Man Accused Of Assaulting Congress' Kanhaiya Kumar

Delhi's Karkardooma Court granted bail to the man accused of assaulting Kumar and outraging the modesty of a woman politician after a meeting on May 17 in the New Usman Pur area of North East Delhi. This case pertains to slapping Congress party's Lok Sabha candidate Kanhaiya Kumar outraging the modesty of a woman and manhandling women, ANI reported.

4 Girls Drown, One Rescued In Bortalav Lake Of Gujarat

Bhavnagar Collector and DM R.K. Mehta said to ANI, "Around 11.30-11.45 am, a few girls had gone to bathe in Bortalav Lake. We have come to know that they drowned...The local community had tried to rescue them. The Fire Brigade was called at 12.30 pm. They had reached the spot and begun relief & rescue operations. We were able to rescue one girl alive, 4 others died. The one girl who was rescued is under treatment at a hospital. She is stable. Postmortem of the deceased girls is being done..."

Breaking News Live 40 Flamingos Found Dead In Mumbai After Being Hit By Emirates Aircraft

BMC reports 40 flamingos were found dead at several places in the Ghatkopar area of Mumbai. The flamingos died after being hit by an Emirates aircraft in Mumbai. The dead birds have been sent for post-mortem. The aircraft landed safely after the incident.
