Guru Purnima is the day when Adiyogi, the first yogi, transformed into the first Guru. Legends suggest that on this full moon day, his attention fell upon the now-celebrated Saptrishis - his first seven disciples. Upon their insistence, Adiyogi had earlier offered them few simple preparatory methods and now these beings, after undergoing 84 years of preparations had transformed themselves into shining receptacles. Adiyogi Shiva could not ignore them anymore, and on Guru Purnima the first Yogi decided to become the first Guru and began transmitting the science of Yoga.
Various masters have stated that the grace of the Guru doesn’t require much but a simple wholehearted devotion. Such devotion need not be huge, convincing, or hard. Just a simple, dedicated gratitude is enough to receive the grace.
However, if you feel like it, there are many ways to express this devotion towards your Guru. But before that, let’s take a look at how to gear up for Guru Purnima Day:
Wake up early: Waking up before sunrise is effective both for conducting rituals as well as allows you a head start to seamlessly fit the added activity on the Guru Purnima eve into your daily routine.
Shower: Shower not only helps in cleaning the body but also refreshes the body and mind for the day. A cold water bath is preferable as it will make you more receptive.
You can also buy a few flowers to decorate your home space.
