From 'No Smoking' To 'No Selfies'— Know About The Strict Rules Of MET Gala 2025

Like always, exclusivity and etiquette come as a part of the event. With no smoking and no selfies, here are some strict rules of the MET Gala 2025 you should know:

MET Gala 2025: The Met Gala 2025 is here, and the fashion industry buzzes in anticipation. Held annually at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the MET Gala is more than just a red carpet event; it is where art, couture, and celebrities collide in glitz.

The theme for this year, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style", draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller's book Slaves to Fashion, which outlines the contributions of Black Dandyism and Black designers to the realm of fashion; it majorly focuses on menswear and suits. With celebrities on the A-list, jaw-dropping ensembles, and a worthy cause for the Costume Institute, the MET Gala holds the title for the most exclusive night in fashion.

No Phones, No Selfies:

Phones go strictly out within the event despite their A-list guests being social media stars. It's that "no phones" policy that creates an environment of complete privacy; attendees are prohibited from taking photos and posting them on social media after entering the museum.

No Smoking Inside:

Smoking is the other thing which is strictly banned inside the venue. Not only for etiquette, but it can possibly cause damage to the garments and artworks. As curator Andrew Bolton cautions, lighting up in the galleries could result in being blacklisted from future Met Gala invitations.

No Garlic, Onions, or Parsley in Sight:

Certain foods are banned to keep the guests looking and smelling their best. Saying no to garlic and onions; even parsley doesn't make it to the menu for fear of bad breath or looking awful caught between someone’s teeth. Messy foods like bruschetta are also avoided to protect those couture masterpieces from accidental spills.

Seat Allocation Is Not in Your Hands:

Even if you are paying top dollar for your ticket, you can not decide with whom you can sit. Sitting arrangements are strategically planned months in advance.

Outfits Approval Needed:

Before stepping onto the red carpet, one must get the approval from the "AWOK – Anna Wintour Okay" for the outfit. No ensemble makes it past the Vogue editor-in-chief's meticulous standards without her approval, making her the unofficial gatekeeper of gala glam.

An Entry Fee Goes Along:

Though the list of guests is tenderly chosen through invites, nothing ensures that an entry is free. Most of the celebrities are sponsored by fashion houses that pay so that attention will be brought to their creations. All proceeds go to benefit The Met's Costume Institute.
