Know Some Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Sunburn

Sunburn is inflamed, painful skin that is hot to the touch and it can be relieved through easy self-care measures such as taking pain relievers and cooling the skin.

New Delhi: Summer has arrived, so it's time to go outside and enjoy the sunshine. Most of us also want to go on beach vacations and sunbathe during this time. But, with all those hours spent outdoors during the summer season, one thing is almost always unavoidable, and that is sunburn. So, it is always important to apply sunscreen before you step outside- not just in the summer but throughout the year.

What is sunburn?

Sunburn is defined as inflamed, painful skin that feels hot to the touch. It frequently occurs within a few hours of spending too much time in the sun.

Relief from sunburn can be obtained through easy self-care measures such as taking pain relievers and cooling the skin. However, the sunburn may take several days to diminish. Nonetheless, even after applying sunscreen, we might get sunburns given the surge in temperature every coming year.

So, here we have listed some home remedies that would help you get rid of sunburns.

1. Drink A Lot Of Water:

Staying hydrated after getting sunburnt is particularly essential because your body doesn't have what it needs to heal when you're dehydrated. Sunburn causes fluids to move to the skin's surface and away from the body. So for it to heal properly, it needs to be constantly replenished with lost liquids and electrolytes.

2. Baking Soda And Oatmeal:

To reduce sun damage, add a few heaping tablespoons of baking soda to a bathtub filled with cool water and soak for about 15 to 20 minutes. A cup of oats in the bath also calms irritation and aids in the skin's natural moisture retention.

Take care not to scrub your skin, either in the bath or after getting out. Instead, dab yourself dry with a towel without rubbing.

3. Place Teabags Over Your Eyes:

According to research, there are several properties in green and black tea that can help heal a sunburn. Tannic acid draws heat away from the skin, while catechins, an antioxidant found in tea, heals skin damage.

This method of healing sunburn at home is especially beneficial for those who have been sunburned around the cheeks and eyes. To do this, soak two tea bags in cool water and position them on top of closed eyelids to help decrease swelling and pain.

4. Use Aloe Vera:

The gel inside the aloe vera plant has been used to treat everything from upset stomachs to kidney infections. It's also the most prevalent over-the-counter sunburn relief.

Breaking off a piece of the plant and immediately applying the gel to the skin provides instant, soothing relief from the sting of minor sunburn. If you can't find a plant, attempt to go for a 100 per cent aloe vera gel.

5. Use Honey:

Research reveals that honey is ideal for healing burns- even severe ones. It is also effective in cleaning wounds that have become infected, as it acts as a barrier between the air and the wound itself. Additionally, honey works to cleanse burns quickly and can prevent the formation of dead tissue on the top of the burnt area.

Not just that, honey has also recently been shown to enhance the burn's natural healing process with minimal scar formation at the end, which is especially important if it's a severe sunburn. This is because the sweet liquid contains properties that improve wound nutrition, and blood circulation and reduce inflammation.
