Karwa Chauth 2023 Date Confusion: October 31 Or November 1? Timings, Moonrise And More Revealed

Also referred to as Karak Chaturthi, this festival sees married women observing a rigorous nirjala fast in the hope of securing their husbands' long lives, prosperity, and safety.

The eagerly awaited festival of Karwa Chauth is approaching, set to take place on the Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik. This auspicious occasion coincides with Sankashti Chaturthi, a day dedicated to the worship of Lord Ganesha. While Karwa Chauth is celebrated nationwide on the same day, in regions like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and South India, where the Amant calendar is followed, it is believed to fall in the month of Ashwin, according to Drik Panchang. Also referred to as Karak Chaturthi, this festival sees married women observing a rigorous nirjala fast, refraining from both food and water, in the hope of securing their husbands' long lives, prosperity, and safety. This fast extends from sunrise until the sighting of the moon in the night sky. Women congregate for the Karwa Chauth puja, read the Karwa Chauth story, and conclude their fast by partaking of a morsel of food and a sip of water offered by their husbands. The deities Lord Ganesha, Maa Parvati, Lord Shiva, and Lord Kartikeya are worshipped during this celebration.

Now, the pressing question for many is, when exactly is Karwa Chauth this year? Is it October 31 or November 1?

The Karwa Chauth puja is scheduled to take place from 5:36 pm to 6:54 pm, and the fasting period, known as upavasa, will be observed from 6:33 am to 8:15 pm. The moonrise, a pivotal moment in the festivities, is expected at 8:15 pm. Notably, the Chaturthi tithi begins on October 31 at 9:30 pm and concludes on November 1 at 9:19 pm.
