A global pandemic is probably the last thing you thought you’ll be stuck in, but here we are. On a daily basis, we are bombarded with updates about this awful virus, the whole world is suffering and all we can do is stay indoors. With our minds not constantly engaged in monotonous tasks of our daily lives, it’s easy to let the mind wander and think the worse of. Instead of finding distractions, it’s best to face the thoughts and move towards more pleasant thoughts. First, you are not alone. The whole world is in this together and we’ll get through this together. Here are a few steps to ensure your mental well-being during these testing times.
  1. Focus on the present, the good that you have, the small things that actually matter and you forgot while you were busy working and dealing with daily tasks. Connect with people, friends you haven’t spoken to in ages, a family that you love but haven’t had the time to speak to.
  2. Spend quality time with your pets, realize how much they love you and look up to you every day. They are unaware of what is happening but they sure are happy to have you home all the time.
  3. Groom your garden, you’ll find peace knowing that in such difficult times your plants are growing. If you don’t have a garden just germinate some pulses and see the little plants sprout up later, you can plant it in some soil.
  4. Listen to the music you used to listen to, get back on reading and finish the books you have been meaning to finish. Watch movies and series that make you feel good.
  5. Be kind to your neighbours and speak to any panic-stricken friends or family. Listen to what they have to say reassure them that they are not alone. Provide help in any way you can and support one another.
  6. Help the elderly, if you see them in the shops, assist them if they need any help. Focusing on the good, no matter how small helps put your mind at ease. In times like these, it becomes even more important to keep your mind in good things.
Utilize this time, this experience to make your mind stronger. Practice the precautionary measures, keep yourself informed but do not overwhelm yourself information if it makes you anxious. Take advantage of the time you have in your hands and finish projects that you have been putting off. Remind yourself that this will be over and we just have to wait it out.
