No New Orders Until War In Gaza Ends, Kerala Firm Supplying Israeli Police Uniforms Says

Thomas Olickal, the owner of Maryan Apparel Pvt Limited, said they have decided not to take new orders from Israel until the war in Gaza ended.

The war that began on October 7 has become the deadliest of five Gaza wars for both sides.

A private apparel unit in Kerala's Kannur district which was involved in the production of uniforms for Israel police on Friday announced a temporary freeze of new orders from Israel. The company's instruction came after the recent bombings between Hamas and Palestine due to long ongoing conflict. Maryan Apparel Pvt Limited had been making elegant light blue, long-sleeve uniform shirts for the Israel police force. 

Thomas Olickal, the owner of Maryan Apparel Pvt Limited, said they have decided not to take new orders from Israel until the war in Gaza ended.

In a video message, Olickal said, "We have been making uniforms for the Israel police since 2015. The Hamas attack, killing civilians cannot be accepted. Similarly, the revenge by Israel also cannot be accepted."

"Denying food and water to over 25 lakh people, bombing hospitals, killing innocent women and children and all cannot be accepted at all. We want the war to end and the peace to prevail," he said. 

He stated that his company will respect existing contracts in accordance with international agreements, but will not accept new orders until the war is over.

Further, he requested everyone to stop the war. He said that Israel's force would not be short of uniforms because of his decision but it was a moral decision.

"Bombing of the hospitals cannot be accepted... We have decided not to take further orders temporarily," he added. 

 

Maryan Apparel Pvt Limited, the private clothing unit, was established in Kannur with the goal of providing work to locals who had become unemployed as a result of the loss of the traditional 'beedi' business there.
