‘Not Right To Use It As Ad For Centre, PM’: Kerala CM On PMAY Logo For State Housing Scheme
Kerala CM Vijayan criticised the Centre's alleged push to display the PMAY logo on state housing, emphasising housing as a basic right, not "an ad" for the Modi government and PM Modi.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, addressing the media during the Nava Kerala Sadas, criticised the Union government's alleged insistence on displaying the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) logo in front of houses constructed under the state government's LIFE Mission project. Vijayan argued that government assistance for housing is a basic right and should not be used as an advertisement for the Union government and the Prime Minister, news agency PTI reported.
He responded to reports that the Centre is requiring the PMAY logo on houses built as part of the Kerala Government’s LIFE Mission project. The LIFE Mission project is a flagship initiative constructing homes for the homeless. The Centre contributes Rs 72,000 under PMAY-G, with the state providing the remaining amount to make it Rs 4 lakh.
"For PMAY-G, the Centre’s share is Rs 72,000, while the state adds the rest and makes it Rs 4 lakh. Now, the Centre is insisting on displaying the logo of PMAY in front of houses constructed as part of the Kerala Government’s LIFE Mission project. Housing is a basic right of every human being. It's not right to use it as an advertisement for the Union government and the Prime Minister," remarked Chief Minister Vijayan, emphasising that attempts to undermine the project, as quoted by PTI.

The Life Mission project planned to construct 71,861 houses this financial year, with an agreement to build 1,41,257 houses. "But there are deliberate attempts to spread that the project has failed. Constructing more houses than planned itself is a reply to those who spread such false information," the Chief Minister said, as per PTI.
PTI reported Government sources as indicating that over 3.56 lakh houses have been constructed and handed over to beneficiaries under the Life Mission project since 2016, with an additional 1.25 lakh houses under construction. The houses built under the project do not feature the state government or the Life Mission logo, they said.
In response to public grievances, Chief Minister Vijayan mentioned that 14,232 representations were received from Kasaragod during the Nava Kerala Sadas. Due to the significant turnout, more counters will be set up to address people's complaints.
The ongoing outreach program, part of the Left government's initiative, aims to showcase the state's achievements and address public concerns. The program is set to conclude on December 23 in the Vattiyoorkavu constituency in Thiruvananthapuram.
