Kerala Congress Slams CPI(M) Govt's Decision To Levy Fees For Holding Marches

Satheesan found it most unexpected that this new rule was proposed by a Communist administration and by those who asserted they become a "revolutionary" party through rallies.

Kerala Congress attacked the ruling CPI (M) for deciding to levy fees for taking out marches ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000. Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan said that Vijayan was scared of protests by people. He said that it was the reason why the Left government was practicing such tactics.

According to IANS, Satheesan said, “The order has to be withdrawn. Aren’t you ashamed to put out an order to say that if one has to protest he or she has to pay fee. Vijayan government is scared of protests by the opposition. We will not pay this fee. You can do what you wish to."

Satheesan found it most unexpected that this new rule was proposed by a Communist administration and by those who assert they become a "revolutionary" party through rallies.

According to the government order, only government educational institutions, public libraries and scientific organisations are exempt from paying the fees. As a result, all political parties will now be required to pay Rs 2,000 if the event is held inside the limits of a police station, Rs 4,000 if it is held inside the limits of a sub-division, and Rs 10,000 if it is held at the district headquarters.

Two-Day MLAs Training Session Begins In Kerala

The Legislative Assembly's two-day training session for MLAs was started in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

After the launch, Vijayan spoke about the significance of legislative business and asked the MLAs to uphold House discipline as he opened the orientation session, which was mostly for new lawmakers.

He added that although speaking in the House is a privilege, some people believe they have an unrestricted right to say anything.

Some individuals believe that they have the right to yell anything (in the Assembly). That's incorrect," Vijayan remarked.
