LS Election Phase 4 2024: Over 17 Crore Voters To Exercise Their Franchise Across 96 Seats In High-Stake Battle
LS Election Phase 4 encompasses 96 constituencies. In Bengal, eight seats witness high-profile contests, including Shatrughan Sinha and Mahua Moitra. Uttar Pradesh's 13 seats feature Akhilesh Yadav and Ajay Mishra Teni.
LS Election Phase 4 2024: As Phase 4 of the General Elections is scheduled for Monday, May 13, 2024, polling booths are primed across 10 States/UTs for the voting process to unfold smoothly, encompassing 96 Parliamentary Constituencies, as well as all 175 seats of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and 28 seats of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, the Election Commission of India (ECI) informed.
To enhance voter turnout, the Election Commission has extended polling time in certain assembly segments of 17 Parliamentary Constituencies in Telangana.
As per the Meteorological predictions, the weather is expected to be normal to below normal, ensuring comfortable conditions for voters. The ECI has ensured facilities like water, shade, and fans to ensure voter convenience. Assured Minimum Facilities also include toilets, ramps, volunteers, wheelchairs, and electricity.
In this phase, 96 Parliamentary Constituencies across 10 States/UTs will undergo polling. Over 17.7 crore voters are expected to cast their votes across 1.92 lakh polling stations.
Special arrangements have been made for elderly and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) voters, with options for home voting. Vigilance measures include the deployment of Observers and surveillance teams to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

Lok Sabha Elections Phase 4: West Bengal
As the electoral juggernaut rolls on in West Bengal, Monday marks the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, with eight constituencies poised to decide the fate of prominent candidates from various political parties. Among those in the fray are bigwigs like Congress' Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, TMC's Shatrughan Sinha, Mahua Moitra, and Yusuf Pathan, as well as BJP's S S Ahluwalia and Dilip Ghosh.
Spread across Murshidabad, Nadia, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, and Birbhum districts, these constituencies face a spectrum of issues, from migrant labour concerns to drinking water supply and industrial decline, news agency PTI reported. The Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) notification remains a contentious topic, fueling debates between the TMC and BJP in certain areas.
According to an official statement, a total of 1,45,30,017 voters, including 71,45,379 women and 282 third-gender electors, are eligible to cast their votes across 15,507 polling stations in the eight constituencies. The Election Commission has identified 3,647 polling stations as critical.
To ensure security, 152 companies of central forces will be deployed, with a focus on Bardhaman Purba, Birbhum, Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate, Krishnanagar Police District, Murshidabad Police District, and Ranaghat Police District.
Several high-profile candidates are contesting in these constituencies. Shatrughan Sinha, seeking re-election from Asansol, faces BJP's veteran leader S S Ahluwalia. In Krishnanagar, TMC's Mahua Moitra is up against BJP's Amrita Roy.
Former Bengali cine celebrity Satabdi Roy is contesting for a fourth term from Birbhum, while Congress' Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury faces stiff competition in Baharampur from TMC's Yusuf Pathan and BJP's Nirmal Kumar Saha.
Former West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh is contesting from Bardhaman-Durgapur against TMC's Kirti Azad and CPI(M)'s Sukriti Ghosal.
According to PTI, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) remains a focal point of discussion, especially in constituencies like Ranaghat, where TMC's Mukut Mani Adhikari, who recently joined from BJP, is contesting.
Lok Sabha Elections Phase 4: Uttar Pradesh
In Uttar Pradesh, the fourth phase is set to cover 13 parliamentary constituencies on Monday, with all eyes on key battlegrounds such as Kannauj and Kheri.
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav seeks re-election from the prestigious Kannauj seat, while Union Minister of State for Home, Ajay Mishra Teni, contests from Kheri.
Kannauj witnesses a high-stakes contest between Akhilesh Yadav and BJP's sitting MP, Subrat Pathak. In Unnao, BJP's incumbent MP, Sakshi Maharaj, faces off against SP's Annu Tandon.
The electoral battle encompasses constituencies including Shahjahanpur (SC), Kheri, Dhaurahra, Sitapur, Hardoi (SC), Misrikh (SC), Unnao, Farrukhabad, Etawah (SC), Kannauj, Kanpur, Akbarpur, and Bahraich (SC), where a total of 130 candidates are vying for victory.
Lok Sabha Elections Phase 4: Maharashtra
In Maharashtra, eleven constituencies are poised for polling, with prominent figures such as Union Minister Raosaheb Danve, BJP leader Pankaja Munde, and actor-turned-politician Amol Kolhe vying for victory.
According to data provided by the office of the state's chief electoral officer, more than 2.28 crore voters are eligible to cast their ballots, deciding the fate of 298 candidates in this phase — the constituencies in focus span across central Marathwada, northern, and western regions of Maharashtra.
In a statement, a representative from the election commission stated, "Voting will commence from 7 am to 6 pm at 23,284 polling centres, ensuring accessibility for voters across the designated areas", PTI reported
The BJP has renominated Union Minister Danve from Jalna constituency and Sujay Vikhe Patil in Ahmednagar. Notably, former state minister Pankaja Munde contests from the Beed constituency.
Actor Amol Kolhe, representing the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), emerges as a significant contender for the Shirur Lok Sabha seat in the Pune district.
In Aurangabad, it's the Uddhav Thackeray-headed Shiv Sena versus Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. Similarly, in Jalna, it's a face-off between BJP and Congress.
Pankaja Munde's nomination in Beed has drawn attention, replacing her younger sister Pritam Munde. Bajrang Sonawane of the NCP (SP) emerges as her main rival.
The contest in Shirur has sitting MP Kolhe of the NCP (SP) competing against Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, supported by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, making it another prestige battle him after Baramati. Northern Maharashtra's Nandurbar witnesses a direct contest between sitting BJP MP Heena Gavit and Congress' Gowaal Padvi. In Ahmednagar, BJP's Sujay Vikhe Patil faces off against Nilesh Lanke of the NCP (SP).
With Maharashtra contributing 48 Lok Sabha seats, it has a significant impact on national politics. Out of these, 24 seats have already undergone polling in the initial phases.
Looking ahead, the fifth and final phase covering 13 seats is slated for May 20, marking the conclusion of the electoral process in Maharashtra.
Lok Sabha Elections Phase 4: Andhra Pradesh
In Andhra Pradesh, the stage is set for polling to elect the 175-member Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats. In the Lok Sabha fray, notable figures include AP Congress president YS Sharmila from Kadapa and BJP state chief Purandeswari from Rajamahendravaram.
The YSRCP, led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, has been campaigning on its welfare measures implemented over the past five years, while the NDA has been highlighting the failures of the state government and promising developmental initiatives if voted to power.
A seat-sharing deal among NDA partners has allocated constituencies, with the TDP contesting in 144 Assembly and 17 Lok Sabha seats, and the BJP vying for six Lok Sabha and 10 Assembly seats. Janasena, led by Pawan Kalyan, is contesting in two Lok Sabha and 21 Assembly seats.
To ensure the smooth conduct of polls, the Election Commission has deployed a substantial security contingent, comprising 1.06 lakh personnel, including forces from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, PTI reported.
Polling will commence at 7 AM and conclude at 6 PM across most of the state, with exceptions in certain areas. The electorate comprises 4.14 crore voters, including 2.02 crore male, 2.1 crore female, 3,421 third gender voters, and 68,185 service electors.
With 454 candidates in the Lok Sabha fray and 2,387 for Assembly polls, the stakes are high for all contenders.
In the past electoral results, YSRCP secured 151 Assembly seats, TDP 23, and Janasena 1, while in the Lok Sabha, the ruling party clinched 22 seats and TDP secured three in the 2019 elections, the electoral battle ahead promises to be fiercely contested.

Lok Sabha Elections Phase 4: Bihar
As Bihar prepares for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, the electoral battles will take place across five constituencies. In Begusarai, the stage is set for a showdown between incumbent Union minister Giriraj Singh and CPI's Awadhesh Rai.
Meanwhile, in Ujiyarpur, Union Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, seeks a hat-trick victory, facing stiff competition from senior RJD leader Alok Mehta. Munger witnesses a battle of nerves as former JD(U) president Rajiv Ranjan Singh 'Lalan' squares off against RJD's Kumari Anita.
In Darbhanga, BJP's Gopal Jee Thakur aims to retain his seat, boosted by a recent rally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, he faces a formidable challenge from RJD's Lalit Kumar Yadav, with former Union minister Ali Ashraf Fatmi adding further weight to the opposition's arsenal.
With a total of 95 lakh voters across the five constituencies, including a significant portion of young voters, the stakes are high.
LS Election Phase 4 2024: Elderly, PwD Voters
Overall across the 96 constituencies, there are over 12.49 lakh registered 85+ years old and 19.99 lakh PwD voters for phase 4 who have been provided the option to vote from the comfort of their homes, the ECI stated.
"A total of 4661 Flying Squads, 4438 Static Surveillance Teams, 1710 Video Surveillance Teams, and 934 Video Viewing Teams are keeping surveillance round the clock to deal with any form of inducement of voters strictly and swiftly," the ECI informed.
The counting of votes for all phases is scheduled for June 4, marking the culmination of the electoral process as well as unveiling the Union leadership for the next five years.
