Karnataka: School Headmaster In Gadag Heckled For Asking Students To Write Essay On Prophet

The block education officer said that inquiry has been ordered in the incident and the information will be forwarded to the deputy director of state education department

The Government school headmaster, Abdul Munaf, in Karnataka's Gadag district was heckled on Tuesday for asking students to write an essay on Prophet Muhammed. Sri Ram Sena activists barged into the school in Nagavi village as they accused the headmaster of facilitating religious conversions of students in the school.

Meanwhile, inquiry was ordered into the incident. "I will get complaint copy and information from headmaster and students. I will forward the same to the deputy director of state education department," said the block education officer, as quoted by news agency ANI.

During the incident, there were over 170 people including students, said an Indian Express report. The report further said that someone whom Abdul knew offered to sponsor money for an essay competition. "In order to improve handwriting among students, we organise essay competitions based on a book. And they are alleging that I was promoting Islam which is incorrect," Abdul said as quoted by IE.

Headmaster Abdul had allegedly given books to students and organised an essay competition with a cash prize of  Rs 5,000.

About the competitions, he said that every month at least one or two essay competitions would be conducted in which the school had given topics on Kanaka Dasa, Purandara Dasa and other personalities to students for the essay competitions in the past.
