Karnataka: School Headmaster Abdul Munaf Suspended Over Essay Competition On Prophet

Dharwad's Additional Commissioner of Public Instruction, Sidramappa Srishaila Biradar, on Thursday, issued orders to suspend the headmaster

A day after being heckled by Sri Ram Sena activists, the government school headmaster, Abdul Munaf, was suspended for asking students to write an essay on Prophet Muhammed. Earlier, the right-wing activists also accused the headmaster was facilitating religious conversions of students in the school. He was reportedly heckled before more than 170 people including students and school staff.

Dharwad's Additional Commissioner of Public Instruction, Sidramappa Srishaila Biradar, on Thursday, issued orders to suspend the headmaster Abdul. 

In a tweet, news agency ANI, "Headmaster Abdul Munaf Lad Saheb Bijapur of a government school in Gadag district has been suspended on orders of Dharwad's Additional Commissioner of Public Instruction Sidramappa Srishaila Biradar. The headmaster was heckled by some people over an essay competition on Prophet Muhammad."

On Wednesday, an inquiry has been ordered into the issue and the block education officer said that complaint has been filed and he will forward the copy of the complaint to the deputy director of state education department.

Headmaster Abdul had allegedly given books to students and organised an essay competition with a cash prize of  Rs 5,000.

During the preliminary investigation about the competitions, he said that every month at least one or two essay competitions would be conducted in which the school had given topics on Kanaka Dasa, Purandara Dasa and other personalities to students for the essay competitions in the past.
