Karnataka: Plantation Labourer Killed In Rainfall-Triggered Landslide In Dakshina Kannada
All the three labourers were resting under a shed at the plantation when the landslide took place in Dakshina Kannada.
Chennai: A labour died in a landslide that occurred at Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday. Three more labourers who were trapped under the debris were rescued.
All the three labourers are rubber plantation workers and all of them were resting under a shed on the plantation when the landslide happened.
On Wednesday, heavy rains continued to batter several districts of Karnataka. The rains pounded districts including Kodagu, Shivamogga, Chikkamangaluru, Hubbali, Belagavi and Uttara Kannada. As a result, some of these places were badly hit by the floods and landslides. The road access was cut to places in coastal districts.
The heavy rainfall also disrupted international flight services in Mangaluru International Airport.

Of all the places, the worst hit was Dakshina Kannada where several homes were flooded, trees uprooted and road accesses were cut on Wednesday.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) even closed Gurupura highway due to the landslide.
The district has been issued a red alert on Thursday and an orange alert on July 9.
In the last 24 hours, Dakishna Kannada received a rainfall of 110.8 mm.

Meanwhile, Regional Meteorological Department in Bengaluru predicted heavy rainfall coupled with thunderstorms and strong surface winds in parts of coastal Karnataka for the next four days. The RMC also predicted heavy rainfall in north and south Interior Karnataka till July 11.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued warnings to fishermen against venturing into the seas for the next five days.
