Two Tamils From Manipur Gunned Down In Mynamar

After the shooting, the bodies of the two men were taken to Tamu hospital. However, the reason for the killing is not known yet. 

Chennai: Two Tamils settled at Moreh in Tengnoupal district of Manipur were shot dead by a bike-borne duo at Tamu in Myanmar on Tuesday. After the killing, tension ran in Moreh and several shops downed their shutters to condemn the shooting.

According to a report on The New Indian Express, the two men were allegedly shot dead by Pya Shaw Htee, a militia set up by Myanmarese junta, at Tamu, nearly 4 km from India-Myanmar border in Moreh.

The deceased were identified as autorickshaw driver P Mohan, son of Perumal and trader M Ayyanar, son of Muruga. P Mohan also reportedly got married only on June 9, 2022.

After the shooting, the bodies of the two men were taken to Tamu hospital. However, the reason for the killing is not known yet. 

In Moreh, the shops and hotels shut down. No vehicles were allowed to leave for Imphal and police also ramped up security in the region.

The Tamil Sangam in Moreh said, the Myanmar Army might have suspected them to be spies and shot them dead since Myanmar is always tense after the coup by the military.

Everyday killings by Army are taking place in Myanmar, they said.

The people from India have reportedly been crossing borders for trade and livelihood.

Moreh has a mixed population of people including Kukis, Tamilians, Meiteis, Punjabis, Bengalis and Marwaris. Six organisations from different communities also submitted a memorandum to Moreh police demanding justice for the duo, said a report on Times of India.
