Karnataka: Former Congress Leader CM Ibrahim Joins JD(S)

Giving hints of joining the party, Ibrahim had predicted that Congress would come third in the 2023 Assembly elections, after the JD(S) and BJP respectively.

New Delhi: Former Congress leader CM Ibrahim joined Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka on Sunday.

The former Congress leader took charge as the party president of state unit of JD(S) in presence of senior leaders HD Devegowda and HD Kumaraswamy in Bengaluru.

According to a report by news agency ANI, Ibrahim, on the occasion, said, “JD(S) is the oldest party and they have 5-10 workers in each village dedicated. We only have to consolidate them. Next time JD(S) will form the govt and HD Kumaraswamy will become the CM here. The people of Karnataka treat me as their own son.”

Earlier, giving hints of joining the party, Ibrahim had predicted that Congress would come third in the 2023 Assembly elections, after the JD(S) and BJP respectively.

“I have relieved myself from the burden. About my next move, I have left it to our national leader Deve Gowda (former PM and JD(S) supremo)...It is the unanimous opinion (of supporters) that my next move should be with him,” a report by Hindustan Times quoted Ibrahim as saying.

“My wish is that JD(S) should to come to power on its own strength. First will be JD(S), second BJP and third Congress (in 2023 polls). The atmosphere is such that what happened in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab will repeat in Karnataka (for Congress),” the leader had added.
