'Congress Least Bothered About Fighting For Karnataka's Rightful Share Of Cauvery Water': LoP Ashoka

The BJP leader further criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for not making adequate arrangements to effectively present the state's case before the tribunal.

Karnataka Leader of Opposition R Ashoka on Wednesday criticised the Congress-led state government for failing to present strong arguments regarding the state's share of Cauvery river water, stating that it has done "a great injustice to the people of Karnataka."

Speaking to the media, Ashoka said "Instead the state leaders are busy looting money and sending it to Delhi. The Karnataka government is committing repeated mistakes in connection with getting the rightful share of Cauvery river water."

"The Cauvery Tribunal asked the state to release 2.5 TMC of water to Tamil Nadu. The entire focus of the Congress government is on looting money, and they are least bothered about fighting for the rightful share of water of the state," he said, as per a report on IANS.

The BJP leader further criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for not making adequate arrangements to effectively present the state's case before the tribunal. He stated that there was negligence towards Cauvery river water and the farmers.

Ashoka also criticised the travel undertaken by Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar to review the monsoon preparedness in Bengaluru.

On Wednesday, both the Congress leaders visited four flood-hit areas. According to the Chief Minister, the inspection was conducted with permission from the Election Commission since the model code of conduct was still in effect.

On the visit, Ashoka said, "Now is not the time to go around the city of Bangalore. A month before the onset of the rainy season, a meeting should have been held with BBMP and BESCOM officials to warn them to take precautionary measures in low-lying areas where there is a possibility of rain water infiltration, where there are many potholes, where the royal canals are encroached, where metro work is going on. Then from time to time the place should be visited and checked whether precautions have been taken."
