Bengaluru: Hindu Outfits Demand BBMP To Grant Permission To Sell Ganesha Idols At Idgah Maidan

After the conclusion of Bakrid, Hindu outfits are demanding the city municipal body to grant permission to establish Ganesha idol stalls and hoist national flag on August 15

Bengaluru: While the ownership of Idgah Maidan in Bengaluru still continues to remain in controversy, after Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) clarified that it isn't their property, the residents' forum has observed bandh on Tuesday stating that the ground is for public and not Wakf board property. After the conclusion of Bakrid, Hindu outfits are demanding the city municipal body to grant permission to establish Ganesha idol stalls and hoist national flag on August 15.

The Idgah Maidan located in Chamarajpet found itself in the middle of a controversy after Hindu Right-wing activists claimed that it was a public place and said permissions should be granted to hold festivals on it.

Vishwa Sanatan Parishad and Chamarajpet Okkuta Samithi have planned to put up 30 Ganesha idol stalls at the Chamrajpet Idgah maidan. Vishwa Sanatan Parishad's President S Bhaskaran said that besides demanding for selling of Ganesha idols, the outfit is demanding to hoist national flag on August 15 at the Idgah maidan.

In a meeting held by Chamarajpet Citizens' Federation, which also comprises several traders' organisations and pro-Hindu outfits, decided that the ground is for public use and should not be limited for Muslims to offer prayers.

Earlier, BBMP had said that the playground comprising 2.5 acres of land in Chamrajpet has no owners as per 1974 Revenue records and the land belongs to the municipal board. However, the Wakf Board in Karnataka gave Gazzette notification stating that the ground belongs to them.

BBMP had sent notice to Wakf Board asking them to submit more documents for verification. The Palike asked the Wakf board to send documents within a week.
