3.36 crore beneficiaries covered under Ujjwala Yojana: Pradhan

New Delhi [India], Feb 8 (ANI): Briefing media on the success of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday said that 3.36 crore beneficiaries have been covered under the scheme till date.

"Analysis of the usage pattern of LPG cylinders shows the success of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. All SC/ST households, whether they belong to SECC or not will be covered under it; 3.36 crore beneficiaries have been covered till date with 44 percent from SC/ST communities," Pradhan told press here.

The scheme was launched in 2016, particularly for the welfare of women in poor households who were putting their health at risk by burning wood and other fuel for cooking.

Pradhan said the scheme provided free LPG cylinders that were otherwise expensive for such households, and termed the 80 percent refill rate as informed by experts have been "very encouraging." (ANI)
