J&K Police Issue Advisory After Several People Receive Suspicious ISD Calls Ahead Of G20 Event

Efforts to provoke unrest and encourage a boycott of the G20 summit are being made through messages on WhatsApp.

The newest security challenge in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has arisen as numerous people are being contacted by questionable international mobile numbers via calls and WhatsApp messages, with the intention of disseminating rumors about upcoming G20 events, news agency PTI reported.

The public has been alerted by the local authorities about these numbers and they are being encouraged to maintain awareness. A phone call believed to be from a dubious number conveyed the message that Kashmir does not belong to India as it was intended for G20 participants. Efforts to provoke unrest and encourage a boycott of the G20 summit are being made through messages on WhatsApp. "G20 delegates—Kashmir is not India. The Modi regime is ill. G20 members boycott it in Srinagar -- save Kashmir Pandits," one of such messages was quoted by PTI in its report.

On Wednesday, Jammu police detected three suspect numbers with the IDs +44 7520 693559, +447418343648, and +44 7520 693134. The police strongly advised the general public to be vigilant and avoid responding to any sort of communication received from these or other ISD numbers. According to them, these figures are accountable for disseminating messages and propaganda that oppose national interests.

“These numbers are spreading anti-national messages and propaganda, and the public should remain fully alert towards these attempts and not respond to any of such suspicious calls,” a police officer was quoted by PTI in its report.

He stressed the significance of staying completely aware and recommended that individuals express any concerns or inquiries about the issue to the cyber police station, local police stations, or police posts.

Additionally, the statement stated that if an individual has any concerns or questions related to the subject, they can reach out to the cyber police station or nearby police station or post.
