Russian Health Ministry Expert Recommends Its Covid-19 Vaccine For 18 To 60 Year Old For Now, Here's Why

Moscow: Russia's new vaccine against Coronavirus is advised to be used for people who are 18 to 60 years of age, Russian state-controlled news agency Sputnik reported.  The report stated that Vladimir Bondarev, the head of the Russian Health Ministry's Scientific Centre for Expert Evaluation of Medicinal Products addressed a briefing on Wednesday. In the briefing, he revealed that the Sputnik-V which Russia has launched as the world's first vaccine against Covid-19 is recommended to be used by those between the age of 18 to 60. The reason cited is that the vaccine has been tested only on volunteers within that age bracket, which Russia categorises as Adults, and hence it would be advised to restrict vaccine use within that category of people. So as of now, the children and teenagers are excluded. Meanwhile, individuals older than 60 may be gradually brought into the fold, as a person in his late 60s responded well to the Russian vaccine. On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced that Russia has developed the world's first vaccine against Coronavirus. He said the vaccine has been inoculated to his daughter and that it works effectively by forming a stable immunity. However, as the world has cognisance of this breakthrough development, internationally the vaccine has raised many safety concerns among the medical community and if it comes to India it will be looked at critically. "If Russia's vaccine is successful, then we will have to see critically whether it is safe and effective. There should not be any side effects of the vaccine and it should provide good immunity and protection.
