FIFA 22 Cross-Play To Begin Testing Soon On PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia: All You Need To Know

FIFA 22 will alert players on the availability of cross-play via in-game notifications.

New Delhi: FIFA 22 will soon feature support for cross-play across platforms like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Google Stadia. EA Sports confirmed that the feature’s testing will kick off soon for online multiplayer matches. FIFA 22 was released in October 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia. This is the first FIFA title to debut on next-gen consoles. In this article, we will discuss everything you need to know about FIFA 22’s cross-play functionality — from compatible modes to how to enable the mode on your version.

For those unfamiliar with cross-play, this mode lets you play matches with users online across all platforms. For example, if you own a PS5, cross-play support will let you test your skills against another player on an Xbox Series X/S, and other platforms. Several popular multiplayer games offer cross-play support, including the likes of Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, Rocket League, and Minecraft.

FIFA 22 cross-play: Launch date, compatible platforms

While EA Sports confirmed that FIFA 22 cross-play will indeed begin soon, an exact date is yet to be announced. The dev team simply said, “We’ll let you know when this Cross-play test kicks off on EAFIFADirect as well as in-game.”

As mentioned earlier, FIFA 22 cross-play test will be available on the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia. There’s no word on when the current-gen consoles such as the PS4, Xbox One, or even PC will gain support for the same.

FIFA 22 cross-play: Available modes

EA Sports said that for now, FIFA 22 cross-play will only be supported for Online Seasons and Online Friendlies. “While we want to enable our players to play with as many friends and others as possible, we limited the test to these two modes with the aim of reducing the chance for introducing new issues into the game,” the announcement read. EA Sports said that based on the game data and feedback gathered from this test, cross-play could further be “implemented in future titles.”

FIFA 22 cross-play: How to enable

As per EA Sports, once the cross-play functionality gets enabled, players will be able to see a widget in the bottom right corner of the main menu. Through this widget, you can enable or disable participation in the cross-play test. It will also let you search for friends playing FIFA 22 on other platforms. If the need arises, you can also block/mute other players.

When looking for friends to cross-play with, you can also see which platforms they are currently on, thanks to distinct indicators beside player names.
